Sato
The earliest persons of the family were said (in the records) to be from Bohol, but they did not have the surname yet . With the catálogo de apellidos of the Claveria decree spelling the surname as Satut, the period immediately after the decree, clerks spelled it the prescribed Satut but, after a year, all other Carcar records spelled it already as Satot. And by the decade 1910s, they were still Satot but some were now beginning to be spelled Sato. In a matter of time, everyone had become Sato. Sato (SA-to) is a Japanese name, probably the most common, too, but we still cannot tell if the real big change happened during the war although, again, by the 1910s, some (a very small minority), who were all — let me make the point clear, originally Satut or Satot — were already spelling it as Sato.
Although records point to the family ancestors as having come from Bohol, the surname Satot (or Satut) squares in nicely with other surnames that start with Sat- in Carcar which suggest that the surnames were distributed already in Carcar and not in Bohol. So except for branches that re-migrated to Bohol from Carcar after the surname had been given, there may not be “original” Satot or Satut or Sato families in Bohol.

I’m the daughter to Ex-congressman Primitivo N. Sato. He died when I was young, so, m very interested in getting more information on him. I heard he was a “full bloodied” Carcarano, and I’m surprised he’s name is hardly mentioned in articles or Carcar websites.
