SAGOLILI

Right now, the oldest record I’ve come across for a Parian mestizo Sangley who moved to Carcar is the 1832 Baptism of Hilario Juan, son of Mariano de la Cruz. After the Claveria decree implementation, the family took on the surname Sagolili. The names of Mariano’s mother and grandparents can also be found in various other records in the church books.
The case of Mariano Sagolili has a similarity to the Noel, Villarosa, Mercado families of Carcar in that the first person was an illegitimate child.
In the 2010 Voters List, there are 86 voters bearing Sagolili (including 1 Sagulili), the 142d most numerous surname on the list.

I belong to the Sagolilis of Valladolid,Carcar, Cebu.
My grandmother’s name is Magdalena Sagolili married to Manuel Orbeta Vasquez.
My mother’s name is Elisea Sagolili Vasquez married
to Candido “Eulogio” Dollera Pansit.
Thank you so much for all your efforts. You made it easier for me to trace my roots especially now that only my Tia Fely Vasquez is left among her siblings. But with a failing memory, it’s not much help.
Although when I was little, it was her whom I heard who mentioned of Juan Sagolili.

Hilario Sagolili (1832-1902)pDn. Hilario Juan (in the Mariano Sagolili family tree. Maybe he was known as Juan rather than Hilario.

silvestra (1905) and teofilo (1907) were the two eldest and the only ones i have record. hilario juan was identified in all records involving him after the claveria decree — as parent or grandparent– as hilario sagolili. but maybe the family called him juan. that would not be the first time such a case happened for carcar.

i just examined hilario re magdalena. when magdalena was married in 1905, hilario was no longer alive (d. 1902) but he would already have been 73 in 1905, old for the marriage of a child no? but the record in that marriage said magdalena was the daughter of hilario and eduvigis cabicab

jun, this maria was born 1887 died 1902 half-a-month before Severa remarried to Pablo Alforque. still some months short of 15, she was identified as an escuela in her Burial record.

Yes, there must be another Maria (Rayla?). Soray (Melchora Rayla-Alfafara?) was a daughter of Anacleto’s older brother, Benito Rayla. she was probably the youngest child because Benito died 2 years after she was born.

in her marriage record to placido alesna, roberta’s parents were given as pablo emvrado, dec. and leocadia alcesto. roberta alcesto’s parents were said to be mateo and maria arogoy. however, in the burial of ana sagolili in 1898, ana’s mother is said to be roberta embrado. but that could be an error, itself. roberta embrado had only one child in my records, sisenando alesna, who married ambrosio and the other roberta’s daughter ana. this could not have been the same roberta because if so, sisenando would have been his wife ana’s half-brother. no, the two are not in conflict; just think of it as a roberta alcesto and a roberta embrado, no problem with that.
